A deeper unfiltered waffle about the purpose and motivation behind wanting to sell little games in a printable format.
Warning: This’ll be a bit quixotic, opinionated and maybe ranty, but hey, if you found this page then you were curious for the deeper intentions and what I have to say right?
There are kinda three philosophical drivers behind wanting to create and share my little Bendie Games.
1. Have some fun people!
Parties and gatherings and laughing with your friends need to be more commonplace or more funner in NZ. We need to loosen up more often! NZ life is so individual, so home orientated, so full time. Work comes first, cooking dinner comes second, emotional stress or depression or and burnout comes third. When you get to 80 years old will you be happy with the life you lived and the amount of laugh lines vs frown lines on your face?
Na, we need to enjoy life more. Laugh more. Have moments to be silly and forget about the gossip and real world problems and enjoy some healthy healing company. Right now, that can be hard to do. It’s either too difficult to get busy people together, or nothing to do but drink too much once we are together.
Hence, I reckon it’ll help to have more of a reason to gather. A game that people are intrigued by and want to clear their schedule for. Something quirky to do, rather than drink and small talk, or get political or sit in a huge conversation circle where no-one wants to be silly. The prime goal of my games ideas is to raise the sprits, break the ice, make us feel young and innocent souled like little kiddies again.
2. commercialism needs to chill
It’s a technological & sociological marvel this world we live in. Convenience is crazy and livability is peak. If you think you need something, you can probably buy it and have it in your hands by tomorrow. But have you ever thought about the fact that every single thing humans have made will be trashed eventually? Everything around you, mini to massive, at some stage, whether it’s 2 minutes or 200 years, is gonna fall apart, be unloved, be replaced, be left to the side, put in landfill, decay in the environment or be burnt. Isn’t that a wild thought? And yet we continue relentlessly making all sorts of things at scary rates to feed the growth of humankind and the consumption machine?
If I was any company that produces a physical thing, I’d be feeling kinda sad about that. Imagine if future governments wake up and impose some responsibilities to control our trash. Coca-cola would be screwed. Thus, this goal to deliver some light-hearted social fun has to be done in a wholesome way.
Have you also seen how expensive board games are getting? And how every Tom, Dick and Harry is on kickstarter trying to take your money to create yet another $100 board game. Geez, the shops are full, the plastic and printing factories polluting Asia have enough orders already. We need to find new better ways to do things in this world, and so I’ll start chipping away over here with my little DIY games.
3. Tired of the modern lame stories
Controversial, but are you a fan of the Disney Star Wars era? Or like 90% of the stories that come out of modern Netflix, movies and games? Na, neither. With a few exceptions it all just feels so yawn worthy and half-arsed story writing. Stories and creations to fill a hopeful gap in the market or ride the hype train and wring more money out of a fan base.
I’m keen to see more original and creative and truly moving stories and ideas. And I’m also a bit tired of everything “being controlled by the corps man”. Hence, I want to share my ideas for some fun drama in a simple, independent, cheap way. The ultimate bendie game plan is to build up to writing some original story experiences where you get to play them and feeeel something.
Will it work? Will this little website and my game ideas make enough money to allow me to stay creative? I dunno, but I’m kinda proud of it thus far. So, I’ll keep pushing for more game and story creations as long as possible!
So yeah, those are my hopeful unrealistic reasons for wanting to do this. If you got this far and like the cause then sign up, like some social media stuff and I’ll give you a free game to try!
Thanks for reading.
